Establishing Your Digital Fortress
Last March 3, 2026, leaders from the government, academe, non-government organizations, MSMEs, and the private sector gathered in Kabacan for the Cotabato 1st ICT Summit, wherein they had an overall objective: to establish a future wherein digital innovation thrives with inclusive growth.
The event was hosted by Ms. Pam Toledo of Cotabato Academe–Private Sector Technology Alliance for Learning, Innovation, Science and Technopreneurship (CATALIST) and led by former DICT Usec Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue. The summit was more than a technology event — as it became a call for alignment across regulators, institutions, and enterprises towards systems that enhance communities, not just automate processes.
Babylon2k’s Founder and Senior Partner of UHY M.L. Aguirre & Co., CPAs, Michael L. Aguirre, opened his talk with a straightforward yet powerful reflection:
“Cotabato” is often explained as kota (fortress) and bato (stone)—a “stone fortress.”
In an era defined by artificial intelligence and emerging technologies like quantum computing, Mr. Aguirre posed a crucial question: If technology is moving fast, what is our fortress?
Where Innovation Meets Governance
The answer is simple, but it’s not just the software or infrastructure we use — it is governance, skills, and shared standards.
Automation nowadays is not all about speed or being cost-efficient. In modern organizations, it also become a mechanism for:
- Consistent compliance
- Stronger risk controls
- Transparent documentation
- Inclusive systems that reduce discretion-based bias
When workflows such as approvals, reconciliations, and deadline tracking are automated, compliance becomes much more systematic, instead of being personality-driven. It can be documented, traced, and considered fair.
Nevertheless, automation is only the first part of the whole picture.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) adds a deeper dimension, which is pattern recognition at scale — wherein environments that are experiencing transaction volumes and complexity arise, AI can emphasize anomalies that humans often overlook.
Inclusive Growth Through Trusted Systems
Additionally, Mr. Aguirre illustrated this systemic function through relatable scenarios such as grants and procurement workflows.
Imagine a system where:
- Payments cannot move forward without complete Terms of Reference (TOR), canvass documents, Banker Automated Clearing System (BACS) resolutions, and delivery confirmations.
- Approvals are routed automatically with digital audit trails.
- AI flags repeated supplier addresses used across different vendors.
- Unusual price spikes are emphasized.
- Split transactions just below approval thresholds are detected.
- Spending patterns inconsistent with project timelines are detected early.
This is not about replacing people — it is about protecting good people, where designed systems are implying much better integrity rather than exposure to manipulation.
Hence, Mr. Aguirre highlighted that when a technology is properly governed, it protects institutions, safeguards public funds, and even empowers MSMEs to participate in transparent ecosystems.
Lead the Future, Responsibly
As his parting message for the audience, Mr. Aguirre left them with two impactful lines: “Live dangerously… carefully” & “Step by step… ferociously.”
It is done by being bold enough to adopt emerging technologies — but remain disciplined with controls, cybersecurity, and accountability.
Overall, transformation does not happen in just one snapping reform. It is established through small, consistent improvements that compound over time — a philosophical stance reflected in platforms like Babylon2k and BETH AI, where AI and automation improve systems while human judgments remain accountable
His closing takeaway was clear:
- Automate the routine.
- Use AI to surface risk.
- Keep humans accountable for judgment and fairness.
That is how Cotabato’s “stone fortress” becomes real, not as a relic of history — but as a modern framework of trusted digital systems where businesses, regulators, and communities grow together.
As digital innovation includes everyone, progress becomes sustainable.
If your organization is navigating automation, AI adoption, or digital governance, the question is no longer whether to transform — but how to do it responsibly.
At Babylon2k, we help institutions design systems where automation strengthens compliance, AI surfaces risk, and leadership remains accountable.
Send us a message or schedule a consultation, and let’s build your digital fortress — step by step, ferociously.
